The long awaited blog post! March 2014
Some of you must have thought "that quilt guild from Hazen, ND must have quit meeting!" Well, the weather was starting to make most of us members think that! For you snow birds, you didn't miss much as far as meetings. Our Christmas party got cancelled because of an ice storm. We didn't really want to risk anyone getting hurt driving to a meeting, some people even let the board know they wouldn't attempt to travel. So, the Christmas party got pushed to January. January came and brought another ice/snow storm. The Christmas party got pushed to February. The meeting happened, (but I wasn't there) Peggy took pictures. Things they did at the party: Member Bingo - match the bingo question to the current member of the guild. We also played the game "So you want to be a quilter" It is a quilting triva shop hop game that came out in the last year or two. We changed it up a little, we wanted to make it more interactive for a group, so we gave people 2.5 inch strips of Christmas fabric, and they had to find members with that matching strip and they formed a team. Then the locations they needed to "shop" at were all around the room. The board is set up kind of like a clue board and you have to stop at different quilt shops and of course coffee shops and gas stations. You might need a little snack on your way to your quilt shop destination. I wish I could tell you how it went, all I know is I hope we get to play it again. You GET to answer questions related to sewing or quilting. Just when you think you know quite a bit, you realize you don't really know much at all. We did have a 5 yard quilt day in January. Diana Shull shared 5 or 6 patterns and several of us made quilts on that Saturday. It was fun to have a sewing day! Hopefully more sewing days in the future. Luella showed us how to use the X block templates. They make some interesting quilts, and the patterns use up most of your scraps, so there is no waste. Here Teri thought she might be able to pick up some scraps from people and then Luella said, oh, we will use those scraps in the border! Our president Jackie played a game with us in March. We all brought a ugly fat quarter of fabric and she read a story as we passed our fat quarters LEFT and RIGHT every time she said those words. She was trying to get us to start thinking about our next QUILT SHOW. Anyone want to head up the next quilt show in September? The raffle quilt will be ready probably in APRIL. It will be out of Oriental fabric. Should be beautiful! Look for Photos next month. Hope you enjoy the slide show from February and March meeting. Happy Quilting!
