November Meeting, 2013

November has come so fast, and going even faster. Yesterday was just 11.12.13 and I realized I hadn't posted the pictures from last weeks meeting. Charlotte gave us a lesson on Cathedral Window ornaments. I took a picture of the directions. If you weren't there and want them, they turned out pretty good. Charlotte has such an infectious smile, and just a delight to have in our guild. We are getting a few new members, new to our communities. Such a delight to have new members and so great to see long time members too. We will miss those snow birds that have flown to warmer climates. But we have had a pretty mild fall. UFO challenge ends in December, be ready to be challenged again, starting in January. Our December brings our Christmas party: A pot luck delight. We have such great cooks in our guild. We have plans for a fun party. If you want to participate in the Christmas Block exchange contact Luella Wolff for the fabric used in the background. Enjoy the slide show. It is short, but some great quilts.

October 2013 Meeting

Our lesson this month was given by Clare. She showed us a disappearing 4 patch, or 4 patch with a twist. This block was found on http://round22.blogspot.com/2012/07/disappearing-4-patch-with-twist.html if you would like to see the original source. Looking for ideas for a scrappy quilt, Clare happened upon this web site and thought it was an interesting new idea for an easy quilt block. Pictures of the block are in the slide show. She also gave some ideas of using Glad press'n seal (Pns)for quilting. She had taken a paper continuous design and placed it on fabric and put the Pns on the paper and stitched through it with a size 14 needle unthreaded. You can then take the Pns and place onto a quilt and use the Pounce and transfer your design to your quilt. A different way to transfer your designs onto your quilts. It can be reused many times. Even after having our quilt show, people had several show and tell items to share. This month members were to wear jewelry that we couldn't believe we bought or had been given to us. You will see a picture of Joel'l, Doris and Nancy who were adorned with some great examples of this challenge. Hope you enjoy the slideshow. I had a glitch uploading all the pics from the meeting... Here is the rest of the show and tell.

August 2013 meeting

The August meetings lesson was an Apron Display. Several pictures in the slideshow show the collection shared with us in August. Members were to come adorned with favorite aprons. We had some great show and tell items from a few select members. But they had a lot to show! September is our quilt show. I have been asked to take a digital version of the show. That will be up shortly after the show in small sections so it is easy to view. Enjoy the slide show.

Hazen celebrated it's centennial over the 4th of July. The parade was the morning of the 4th. Although we didn't win any awards, I think it was one of the best floats! Liz took some pictures before the parade. The theme was Red, White and Blue and Centennial ideas. If you didn't come to the parade, you can check out some photos here!

Thanks to Peggy for taking pictures of the June meeting. And hopefully the July meeting. I am traveling with my daughter from Idaho during the 1st of the month, which I realized ended up being during our meeting dates. Can't tell you much about the meetings, just need to encourage you to get ready for our quilt show in September.

Diana Shull gave us a great lesson on Courthouse Steps blocks. She had a lot of fun samples to show us. It was a great lesson! Thanks Diana. Here is a link to a tutorial on the web if you need some additional information: http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpatternsprojects/ss/log_cabin_quilt_3.htm In addition to the lesson, we had some great show and tell. Hope you enjoy the slide show of the show and tell. I will be gone for the June meeting. Maybe someone will take photos for me so they can be uploaded... Summer is soon here, Yay!

Our April meeting was on April 1st. The Monday after Easter. I was traveling home that day and didn't make the meeting. Thanks to Liz for taking pictures. I can't tell you much about the meeting execpt that there seemed to be some good show and tell. Check out the slide show. I hope you share this link with other people. No one said anything about it not being up, so I am wondering if anyone even looks at it. Keep me posted. Better yet, make a comment. Thanks! Clare

January/February Meetings

I haven't put the guild blog in the forefront of my priorities. My appologies to everyone waiting to see the show and tell from the last two months. I have a new camera... and I haven't quite figured out the way to take good quick pictures. My children felt that my old camera was needing some updates... but I found that I am taking a lot of blurry pictures... So some of them are not great! We had our White elephant sale in January and in February Peggy gave us a demonstration on bags to hang on the wall to hold items. Lots of show and tell from the last two months. I think I had 74 pictures to upload. Hope you enjoy them, stay warm and keep on sewing!
