Christmas Party 2012

As always on our December meeting we had a potluck and a party for our evening. The night started out slow... as few people were there at 6:30. But in the next few minutes the hall began to fill. I believe all the chairs were filled. It was such an nice crowd. I will guess that there was 40-45 people there. And our hostesses from Stanton did such a nice job. There is a a bit of show and tell. Many fun things on the wall to add Christmas cheer! January brings our White Elephant Sale. Bring your sewing items that you can't bring yourself to finish, or have grown out of love with... sell it to raise money for hospice or the guild library. (I am unsure which it is, or if it is both). We always have so much to look at. Teri T. told us of an item she bought last year, that she finished and gave to her mother... and she was just thrilled. So, start digging. Also, a guild weekend at the Knights Hotel in Riverdale for the first weekend in February. Schedule your room, soon. Can you believe 2012 is almost over. Where did the year go! Happy Holidays!

Some great Show and Tell at the November Meeting. Kudo's to those who shared show and tell items! We also had a presentation from Kathy on reversible binding. Have you ever been short of a fabric you wanted to use for binding, or couldn't find the right binding to match the front and the back. This was the lesson for you! Great job, again, Kathy Betty Jane Boeshans also presented Maxine Beckwith with a check of 288.19 raised from the sweets and treats donations at the past Quilt show to be used for the Hazen Centennial. Another picture in the slide show was from the Mercer County Historical Society where Betty Jane Boeshans presented a check of $576 to Ron Kessler of the Historical Society. The funds were raised at the Silent Auction from the Fall quilt show. The donation was made to enhance the Quilt display at the Historical Society in Beulah. Enjoy the slide show, Christmas party in December. Remember it is Pot luck!

I am sorry I put this up late... Just a week, but I kind of forgot about it. The guild met today for a Mystery quilt sewing day set up by Toni and her quilt shop "Quilts from the Heart" I didn't stop by, but I sure hope they had a great day. Our October meeting lesson was given by Jackie E. She showed us a new (to ND) knitting technique for making scarves. The Yarn is a bit different than normal yarn. Looks like a great idea for newcomers to try, because it is very forgiving. I took pictures if her steps, you veterans can probably figure it out from the pictures... We had a small group and some show and tell. Cheryl K. wasn't there but she gave Peggy several Hospice tops. That is the majority of the show and tell. Great job, again, Cheryl! We talked at guild about the Christmas blocks. It was decided that if you want to participate you could use any christmas fabric and a cream fabric and make what you want for a 12.5 inch exchange block. Make one block for the exchange, and one block for the drawing and you will have an opportunity to win a set of blocks (usually about 8, but depends on how many participate) We always wrap one block to put in the exchange and you will get a different wrapped block from another quilter. You will at least go home with one Christmas block. The Christmas party is always a fun party! We have a pot luck and games and NO business meeting... So hope all you members are planning to attend!

Check out the slide show of our overnighter. We all made blocks to exchange with the theme of Sun, Sand and Sea. Our blocks were very different. We were able to exchange, play and sew our creations together. Some of us chose to "THINK" over the design carefully and other just put them together in any fashion. The creations will be fun to see fully completed. Interesting how people can have such different ideas.

We had our Quilt show this weekend. September 7th and 8th. Again, a great show. I hope you enjoy the quilts in our slide show. Our theme this year was "Quilting for the Gold" There are about 130 pictures so make sure you have time to view them. If you want to view them in Picasa that will work also.

We had our August meeting. I was a little late and didn't get to see the demo. It was a make and take petal bag. perfect for holding jewelry. I don't think I got a picture of one, but it was a nice project. It only used 2 contrasting 10 inch blocks of fabric. There were a few show and tell projects shown. BettyJane showed off one of the Blue ribbon's she got at the State Fair. Judy comment on the Large amount of Blue ribbon's she got for various items, food, handwork, canning, and quilting items. Good job Betty Jane! I got to share my summer projects... I suppose most people are holding off showing their projects for our September Quilt show. It will be our 1st time holding the quilt show without Hazen's harvest fest being in session. July is just too warm for us to think about hanging quilts even if the city hall is air conditioned. Sorry it took me so long to upload the pictures. I hope you enjoy the show and tell. Clare

Had our July 2012 guild meeting July 2nd. Hot day, we had Ice cream sundaes served by the board members. Our lesson was a silent auction. Again, we had lots of fun things to bid on... It is just like the M&M commercial... hard to resist! The heat didn't bring out too many people. But we still had some pretty awesome show and tell. Cheryl out did herself again... I think she had 5 hospice quilt tops... Wow! What a machine! Hope you enjoy the slideshow...

Hello all, Last night we met for guild. Teri and Peggy provided the lesson. They showed step by step directions to make pillow cases from the million pillow case challenge. http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/millionpillowcases/freepatterns/ The above website will get you to the pattern. They have about 5 different patterns on that web page, and a video to show you how to put the pillow case together. Peggy told us not to just look at pictures... You need to read the directions and trim... when they tell you to. Teri had each step ready with pillow cases sewn in that stage... So I took pictures of each stage... don't expect me to write the steps... check out the above web page... The rest of the night, members sewed on pillow cases, pressed, and talked... always nice to do that! July will bring our Silent auction again... so go thru your closets, look for those sewing projects you know you won't ever finish... proceeds go to either our library or hospice... (I am not sure which this time) We will be having the quilt show in September without the normal Harvest Fest going on in Hazen. We have a olympic theme to the quilt show... And there is a challenge for members.. pretty much anything that relates to an olympic theme... wall hanging or whatever floats your boat... time to start thinking and get going on the challenge! We had some great show and tell.. check it out... fun time had by all!

May 2012 meeting

Where has the year gone, I can't believe that it is already May.
Our meeting lesson was "Ask the experts"  While we have many experts in the group... sometimes the opportunity to ask questions is valuable.   I am sure many will think later... why didn't I ask that question. Isn't that why we belong to a guild... to be able to ask other members some of those questions that we are wondering.. We have a great group of quilters...  great questions and great answers from all in attendance... not just the "experts".

Hopefully you are able to see the slide show of our show and tell.  It is just unbelieveable the quality of work people put out and share for our show and tell.

This year we will be having our quilt show without the typical "Harvest Fest" doings...  We will have to get the word out to publicize our show since people won't be in town for other Harvest Fest activities... spread the word... September 7th-8th  will be the Common Threads Quilt show... with a Olympic Theme...  (can't remember what we agreed on for the name)....  Guess you will have to wait until June...

Our April meeting had some great show and tell. Kathy did a lesson on borders. We were all geared up and ready to learn... It is always nice when we get a good demo and then people from the guild chime in and share their knowledge too. Great lesson, Kathy. I put up pictures from our April meeting and included a picture of the Easter chicks our Hostess' made. So clever! We worked on the Raffle quilt the Saturday before our meeting.. I took just a few pictures of the process of putting the blocks together. It will be another beautiful quilt. Hope you enjoy the show and tell.

March Meeting 2012

I figured out how to post the slide show... A couple months of not doing it, and you just lose it... I hope you enjoy the slide show.  Dawn gave us a nice lesson on folding flowers.  We were instructed to bring 10inch squares along so we could make a flower and take home.  We all do better when we actively involve ourselves in the lesson.  Of course we had some great show and tell.   I am always amazed at the abilities of our members.  We have some great show and tell.   Hope you enjoy the show!  Leave a comment so I know you are checking it out!  THANKS!

February Meeting

I am getting kind of late in posting the show and tell from the February meeting... Many appologies! We had a great lesson from Teri.  She showed us how to make jewelry from zippers.  She made it possible for us to make one to take home.  Thank you TERI!  I was able to complete one during the meeting and show and tell... you can see it in the slide show (if  I can figure out how to load it!)

It seems that every month it takes me over an hour to upload pictures, then figure out how to get the slide show to post to the blog...  Next month I will try to do it right away, maybe I will remember the method to post the slide show.  Ok... I can't get it into a slide show... I am just posting a link to the Picassa web page that I have the pictures uploaded to... There are 48 pictures in the slide show.

Cheryl was amazing again, she brought many tops she completed LAST MONTH... She is just extrodinary!  Peggy made some more patchablitities... we thought she was done with that...(I think she thought she was too)  People are getting their UFO's done... Good Job!  Many others had some awesome quilts to show... check it out... See you at the next meeting!

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

Our January Meeting was on January 1st.  We had a Silent Auction for Hopsice and the Guild Library.  There was 5-6 tables full of sewing items.  People were bidding high on several items... Always a fun night.  Show and tell was great too.  We had a few people bring back batik blocks from fabric that was given out at the Chrismas party.  Those blocks will be put into future hospice quilts.  Next meeting  will be February 6th!  See you then!
